Summary of the Conference
The Summit on Genomics Frontiers II: Ethics, Equity, and Identity Across Asia and Africa (Bangkok, Sept 29 – Oct 1, 2025) showcased the remarkable breadth of modern genomics. Sessions spanned from cutting-edge science—single-cell and spatial omics, enzyme replacement for lysosomal storage disorders, and emerging therapies for neurodegenerative disease—to clinical frontiers in cancer, newborn screening, and tumor genomics.
Yet the meeting reached far beyond biology: ethical, legal, and social issues were debated, including disparities, maternal-fetal medicine, and challenges faced by subgroups such as LGBTQ+ communities. Education, genetic counselor development, and regional collaborations across Asia and Africa were central themes, while AI in genomic medicine opened new conversations on both opportunity and risk. The convergence of science, ethics, and community highlighted not only the depth but also the stunning impact of genomics across regions, ages, and diverse populations.
